Introduction
Do you think you already know what it takes to have good health and eat right? Do you want good skin, shiny hair, and a healthy looking body is very important? Do you want to live a long and memorable life? Everyday, we are given choices that impact the outcome of lives without really giving it a second thought. This unit, How to Beat the Super Size System, will focus on many of these questions and will teach you much more than you ever wanted to know about the fast food industry and the importance of regular exercise in your own life.

The Task
You will be taking note of your own diet and exercise routine for one week. Then, we will watch the movie, Super Size Me, in class. After the movie, we will be evaluating what our target body mass index is, appropriate serving size, the value of exercise and food selection. Then, we will evaluate our own health plans and search for ways to improve. At the conclusion of this unit, you will write a five-paragraph essay and present a two-minute presentation to the class about what you learned.

  • A list of Extension Activities was designed to extend your learning beyond the assignment. Please ask your teacher about which you would like to complete for extra credit.

Finally,
What are the benefits of a nutritious diet? How do your food choices define your future health? Are the food choices you are making today, healthy ones?
