"Instructional Design,
it's about building
the best training with innovation, content and structure.
You become an
architect of learning.
You plan, create, form and build."
– quote by vendor Influent Technology Group...
To Whom It May Concern:
I am applying for an instructional design position at your company. I have many years of experience as both an instructional designer, technical writer, teacher, and trainer of trainers. I have experience in computer-based learning (also known as ILT, e-learning, etc.) as well as a lecturing instructor. Though I can postulate using the the major theories of Instructional Design such as Donald Kirkpatrick's Methods of Evaluation, the educational objectives of Bloom's Taxonomy (and later changes by his students), Robert Gagne's Events of Instruction, Robert Mager's more modernized Criterion-Referenced Instruction and the ADDIE model I use everyday, it is my preference to show these theories in practice, and exemplify these beliefs through my daily work practices. I am a good communicator with many years of practice and have no hinderance at calling engineers to ascertain technical details to be able to explain to a broader audience.
I am inspired by diverse ways of thinking and love collaborating on a team. But, I also like to work hard, independently, to deliver projects on time to clients. Nonetheless, I also have many experiences as a leader, editor, assistant editor, chairperson, president and am happy to step-up as project manager, whenever needed. I am very goal-oriented and very deadline-driven, which explains my joy of managing projects and overseeing project scope. I have recent experiences working at Yahoo! Inc., AT&T and through running my own consulting company to help connect people-to-people, find web solutions and to create professional projects for those interested in having film or audio to coincide with live delivery of speeches and lectures.
With a wide range of experiences from web design, to writing, to business and sales, to film and audio engineering, I constantly read and take classes to stay on top of emerging technologies. I am always looking for ways to better myself and one of the ways to do this is to get involved in the local community. I do this through participation as an Adobe Beta tester for their software projects, working on research studies, contributing to many local non-profit organizations for kids interested in music and cancer research, as well as my own Finnish Heritage, of which I regularly help plan and execute cultural events. Additionally, I also participate on several athletic teams to keep my body fit, as I find this really improves my work performance.
I think words are important and the way we express our ideas can easily become muddled and unclear. I am looking for a job in instructional design because I am motivated by helping others and I have a strong skill in instructional organization. I enjoy learning new things, particularly highly technical materials and converting them into informational sound-bites or other forms of communication to better help people understand one another.
I look forward to the potential of working with you!
Sincerely,
Gina Hansen
